I was visiting Jalazon refugee camp this weeked. Badil a refugee rights group has asked me if I could help them taking photos of life in the refugee camps in the West Bank for a future exhibition. I went with Abu Marmar from Qalandya refugee camp, a keen photographer in his 50s who studied cinema in Russia years ago. Now he leads a youth group in Qalandya camp and is quite a character. Hyperactive and between his moods, he has some fascinating stories and observations to tell.
Refugee camps be it in Lebanon or the West Bank are sadly pretty homogeneous mazes of construction blocks. My eye always follows the kids living in these places and I managed to catch this magical moment at the camp...
If you havent yet, check out www.imaginarius.org for more information of Bourj Al Shamali in Lebanon and for the results of kids with cameras in the camp.
